About Us

Advancing dignity, access, and opportunity for girls and women.

Our Story

Floé Feminine Hygiene Foundation (FFHF) was born out of a deep awareness of a silent crisis - one that too many girls and women across Nigeria face every month: Period Poverty.

For millions, menstruation is not just a biological reality - It is a barrier. It is the reason a girl stays home from school, hides in shame, or risks her health using unsafe alternatives. For disadvantaged women, it is a monthly struggle that robs them of comfort, dignity and basic hygiene - whether in rural communities, marketplaces or displacement camps.

We began with a simple but powerful goal:

To ensure no girl or woman is left behind because of her period.

What started as a small community outreach, distributing pads and speaking to girls about menstrual health is growing into a bold movement through which we are reaching girls in schools and women in underserved communities, restoring dignity one pad at a time.

We also realised that access alone is not enough. We need to educate, advocate, and push for policies that protect girls and women, and to promote sustainable menstrual solutions like reusable pads. To achieve systemic change, we need data, partnerships and platforms that will amplify the voices of those affected by period poverty.

This gave rise to our five core areas of focus (our pillars):

Access. Education. Advocacy and Policy. Sustainability. Research and Impact.

Every programme, every campaign and every workshop is fuelled by the belief that when girls and women are equipped to manage their periods with dignity they can live, learn and lead - uninterrupted.

Floé foundation is more than just a project. It is a movement for menstrual equity, a call to action and a commitment to every girl and woman who deserves to bleed without shame.

Our five focus areas serve as the pillars which support the development of our programmes and campaigns.

Pillar 1: Access

Ensuring every girl and woman have the products she needs - every month.

At the heart of menstrual equity is access. Millions of girls and women in Nigeria lack the basic supplies needed to manage their periods safely and with dignity. Through this pillar, Floé Foundation distributes free sanitary towels and menstrual hygiene kits - including underwear, soap and towels - to disadvantaged girls and.

We aim to bridge the product gap by providing both monthly distributions and an assurance of annual supply for consistent support. We also run a sponsorship initiative - MyPeriodSponsor - which connects girls to sponsors who commit to supporting their menstrual needs either short or long term.

Access is where dignity begins, and no girl or woman should ever have to choose between hygiene and hope.

Pillar 2: Education

Equipping girls and communities with the knowledge to manage menstruation with confidence.

We believe that education is the most powerful tool for breaking the stigma and myths surrounding menstruation. Our education pillar focuses on delivering interactive menstrual hygiene workshops in schools, markets and community centres providing both girls and boys with factual age-appropriate information about periods.

Each school term will run our signature RedBloom workshops, designed to spark open dialogue and build body literacy. In schools, will establish red bloom clubs - safe spaces where girls can share, learn and grow together, building peer leadership and self-esteem.

This pillar also includes training for parents, teachers and community leaders helping to build an ecosystem of understanding around menstrual health and hygiene.

Pillar 3: Advocacy and policy

Changing the narrative, one policy and one conversation at a time.

Menstrual equity is not just a health issue; it is a human rights issue. Through our advocacy and policy pillar, Floe Foundation works to influence public perception and national policies that impact menstrual health through engagement with local and national governments, civil societies, health practitioners, educators and faith-based groups to prioritise menstrual hygiene in education, health and gender equality policies.

We do this through key initiatives such as:

  • Policy roundtables and townhalls

  • Menstrual health awareness campaigns

  • Stakeholder dialogues and coalition building

  • Youth advocacy training programmes

We envision a Nigeria where sanitary products are tax-free, menstrual hygiene is part of the school curriculum and every girl's right to manage her period with dignity is protected by law.

Pillar 4: Sustainability

Promoting long term eco-friendly solutions to period poverty.

Disposable pads are often expensive and hard to access in poor communities. Through our sustainability pillar, we promote reusable sanitary towels as a safe, affordable and eco-friendly alternative. To ensure girls and women have a sustainable supply of reusable sanitary towels, we are working with manufacturers and artisans to supply and eventually locally produce reusable sanitary pads, reducing dependency on imports. We also run training programmes that empower women to sew reusable pads as a source of income, creating both environmental and economic sustainability.

Our goal is not only to reduce waste, but to ensure every girl has a long-term solution - and every community has the skills to support menstrual resilience.

Pillar 5: Research and Impact

Driving change through data, stories, and lived experiences.

We are committed to grounding our work in evidence. This pillar tracks and evaluates our programmes to ensure measurable, scalable impact. We collect both quantitative and qualitative data to understand the realities of period poverty and the outcomes of our interventions.

Activities include:

  • Baseline and impact surveys.

  • Menstrual health and school attendance studies

  • Real time monitoring dashboards.

  • Mapping of period poverty across Nigeria to inform programme development and influence policy

  • Community stories and case studies

Through strong data, we can identify gaps, advocate more effectively and improve our approaches. Our research will also contribute to national and global dialogues on menstrual health, supporting innovation and policy reform.
