Floé Foundation Launches the Period Smart Schools Programme in Abuja
Theme: Period Smart, Future Ready
Floé Foundation is pleased to announce the first edition of the Period Smart Schools Programme, a school-based menstrual health outreach initiative designed to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to thrive.
This inaugural workshop is being organised in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated annually on 11 October, to highlight the importance of investing in girls’ health, education, dignity, and future potential.
The workshop will take place at Government Secondary School, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, on 10 October 2026, bringing together students, educators, health professionals, and key stakeholders committed to advancing menstrual health education and adolescent wellbeing.

The event is being held with the approval and support of the Secondary School Education Board (SSEB), Federal Capital Territory, which has also confirmed its attendance.
About the Programme
The Period Smart Schools Programme is Floé Foundation’s flagship initiative aimed at creating school environments where menstruation is understood, supported, and managed with dignity.
The programme focuses on:
Menstrual health education
Menstrual hygiene and sanitation
Safe and responsible pad disposal practices
Adolescent health and wellbeing
Reducing stigma and misconceptions surrounding menstruation
Establishing Menstrual Hygiene Clubs in schools
Improving access to menstrual hygiene products through the MyPeriodSponsor initiative
Through this programme, Floé Foundation seeks to ensure that no girl is disadvantaged in her education because of her period.
What to Expect
Participants will benefit from engaging and interactive sessions delivered by experienced professionals.
Menstrual Health Workshop
The menstrual health session will be facilitated by:

Chief Nursing Officer, IVF Centre, National Hospital Abuja
The session will cover:
Understanding the menstrual cycle
Menstrual hygiene management
Common myths and misconceptions about periods
Maintaining hygiene during menstruation
Safe sanitary pad usage and disposal
Building confidence and self-esteem
Mental Health and Wellbeing Session
A dedicated mental health session will also be delivered by a specialist facilitator, focusing on:
Emotional wellbeing
Self-confidence
Resilience and personal development
Navigating adolescence successfully
Sanitary Pad Distribution
As part of the outreach, Floé Foundation will distribute approximately 1,000 sanitary pads to female students and staff to support menstrual hygiene management and reduce barriers to school attendance.

Prize presentations for outstanding participants
Building Period Smart Schools
This workshop marks the beginning of a broader national effort to establish Period Smart Schools across Nigeria through education, peer support, and access to menstrual hygiene products.
