Floé Foundation and Ese-Tonia Foundation Unite to Tackle Period Poverty in Lagos Orphanage

In many communities across Nigeria, a silent barrier continues to deny young girls their right to education. For some, the challenge is not a lack of ambition or ability—but something as natural as menstruation. Each month, countless girls miss school simply because they cannot afford basic sanitary products, a crisis widely known as period poverty.

Determined to change this narrative, the Floé Feminine Hygiene Foundation, in collaboration with the Ese-Tonia Foundation, recently made a powerful intervention aimed at restoring dignity and educational access to vulnerable girls.

A Day of Impact at Sought After Orphanage

On September 6, 2025, both organisations joined forces at the Sought After Orphanage in Langbasa, Lagos, to deliver more than just aid—they brought hope, empowerment, and practical solutions.

The outreach was designed as a holistic support initiative. While the Ese-Tonia Foundation provided essential academic supplies—including school bags, books, and writing materials—to ensure the children were fully equipped for school, the Floé Feminine Hygiene Foundation addressed a more deeply rooted and often overlooked challenge.

Through the distribution of specialised Floé Hygiene Kits, Floé targeted the issue of period poverty head-on, ensuring that young girls no longer have to choose between their education and their natural biological cycles.

Beyond Donations: Education and Empowerment

Recognising that providing resources alone is not enough, the event also focused strongly on education. Floé Foundation’s volunteer on Creative Media and Education, Ugochi Anyanwu, facilitated an engaging and informative menstrual hygiene session.

During the session, the girls were guided on:

  • Proper use of menstrual hygiene kits

  • Safe and hygienic practices during their periods

  • Breaking harmful myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation

This knowledge-sharing component played a crucial role in building confidence among the girls—empowering them to manage their periods without fear, shame, or stigma.

Restoring Confidence and Opportunity

For each girl who received a menstrual kit, the impact goes far beyond the physical item. It represents:

  • The confidence to attend school every day of the month

  • The freedom to participate in sports and activities

  • The ability to focus fully in class without anxiety

By addressing period poverty, initiatives like this directly reduce absenteeism and strengthen

the foundation for long-term educational success.

A Shared Commitment to the Future

The collaboration between Floé Feminine Hygiene Foundation and Ese-Tonia Foundation sends a clear and powerful message to every beneficiary:

Your future matters—and nothing, not even your menstrual cycle, should stand in the way of your dreams.

The September outreach stands as a benchmark for what can be achieved through strategic partnerships and community-focused interventions.

The Work Continues

While the event was a resounding success, the reality remains that many more girls across Nigeria are still affected by period poverty. For every child reached, there are many others still in need of support.

Floé Foundation is calling on individuals and organisations to help sustain this life-changing work.
